I love traveling, and this past week my husband and I took a road trip to Utah in our Sprinter van to see our son. We skied, relaxed, and recharged. When I’m not writing, I enjoy visiting family and friends, experiencing a change of scenery, eating, and meeting new people! That’s why I love doing book events. It’s like being on an adventure every time. Each conversation is unique, satisfying, and fun because the individuals and settings are so different.

I was grateful to talk to my friend Tina Quinn’s book club in Park City while watching the snow fall outside her home. It was magical to be embraced by snow as well as a group of enthusiastic readers in person and on Zoom. We took nature to another level when a question came up about why I chose WHITE MULBERRY for my title.

“If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?” One member responded that she would be an Aspen because their roots are connected like a family, and there was a family of Aspens right outside the window! Another said a Mimosa because that was that was the tree that she and her brothers used to climb as children. I love how trees can evoke such emotion, and that’s why I chose one for my title. Below is a picture of a White Mulberry tree that we planted in our backyard this past Christmas and is growing nicely. Trees are home to me.

Every book club visit has been engaging and rewarding, like a long-awaited trip. We have had unexpected and interesting conversations about family, motherhood, love, identity, secrets, and so much more. We’ve eaten food from Korea, Japan, Hawaii, and elsewhere. I have had many readers share their untold stories with me, and it has enriched my life in so many ways. And, what a wonderful way to celebrate Women’s History Month but by being surrounded so many amazing women.

If you’d like me to speak at your book club, please let me know. Be warned, you may asked what kind of tree you would be!

Next, I am headed on the road again to some book festivals in Virginia, Maryland, and San Francisco. Will you be able to join me on one of my next stops? You can keep up with my whereabouts on my events page.
